Observe

  • Describe what you see. I am looking at a city sidewalk. People are crowded walking around. I see a lot of black people.
  • What do you notice first? I notice a kind of run-down building. It looks like it's falling apart, and there are a lot of people crowded around it.
  • What is the physical setting? It is located outside. It looks some-what sunny, warm enough for people to be walking around.

Reflect

  • Why do you think this image was made? To show how people spent their days during The Great Depression
  • What’s happening in the image? There are a lot of black people shopping maybe, or just taking a walk in town.
  • If someone made this today, what would be different? There would be more roads, more cars, people dressed in fancier attire, the building would be made with more work and money.

Question

What do you wonder about...
  1. who? Are all these people outside...?
  2. what? Are they doing in front of this building...?
  3. where? In town does this happen the most...?
  4. why? Are they so attracted to this one store...?
